nilkanthavarni aka Swaminarayan was a yogi and ascetic believed by followers to be a manifestation of Krishna
Nilkanth varni or Shree Swaminarayan (previously his name was Ghanshyam pandey named by his parents) was born in Uttar Pradesh. After his birth, astrologers saw that the marks of "Braj Urdhav Rekha" and "lotus flower" are made on his hands and feet. At the same time, it was predicted that this child is not normal in the coming times he will have great role in changing the lives of crores of people. When Shree SwamiNarayan was only 11 years old, his parents died. But Shree SwamiNarayan had studied many scriptures at a young age. After the death of his parents, he had circumambulated the entire country in the next seven years. People now started calling him 'Neelkanth varni'. Shree Swaminarayan ji also stopped many evils spread in the society. Such as the practice of Sati, killing female infant, sacrificial system etc. His fame spread everywhere. He never discriminated. Wherever he found trouble, he would help everyone with full devotion and without any selfishness. He himself would follow the rules which he made. He also got many temples constructed and himself used to do Shramdaan in it.
Seeing all this, people gave him the status of God. He is considered as incarnation of Narayana himself. One of the most famous temples dedicated to him is the Aksharadham temple in Delhi. It is one of the largest temples in the country.
